Last weekend we went to wine country south Burgenland where we had haute cuisine as well as excellent wines – especially the red ones.

The Gypsy Baron

Time for summer open air festivals! We went to the lake stage in Moerbisch to see the 'Gypsy Baron'. That's an operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss II. It's a colourful story of the marriage of a landowner and a gypsy girl who is revealed as the daughter of a Turkish Pasha. It involves a fortune-telling Romany Queen, an absurdly self-important Mayor, a rascally Commissioner, a Military Governor, a band of Gypsies and a troop of Hussars (thanks to Wikipedia :-) ). It was a pleasure!
