Whitsunday Tournament

Every year on whitsunday the local hobby football club organises a tournament. Due to the entire lack of talent we spent our time there by drinking beer and chatting. The weather was really good and I think it was more than +20 degrees Celsius compared to the last year when we were freezing in the tent. So we spent a lazy sunday afternoon and because of the holiday next day the perspectives where clear ;-)

Student's Council Election 2007

On Thursday was the last day of the election for the Austrian Students Council. The election lasts three days and on the last day the polling stations close at 3 pm.

Around 6.30 pm I joined the group at the mensa cafe waiting for the extrapolation. Unfortunately the commission decided to enumerate the Programme Representation of Students. Nevertheless we started drinking beers and cocktails and watched the results that arrived from the other universities.

The trend of the evening was gains for the center placed AktionsGemeinschaft whereof I'm member. So the mood improved and people looked happy but there was still tension in the room.

At 10.30 pm the results arrived! A glorious victory for the AktionsGemeinschaft at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. Unbelievable +15% of the votes. From 50-something two years ago to two-thirds (66.82%)!

Now the night continued in downtown Vienna at the official election party. Jubilant people all over the crowded location. At 3 am – nearly hoarse – a retreat taxi brought me home. I had to work next day otherwise I would have stayed till the cows come home.

Maypole

Every year on the last day of April at countryside Austria the people are setting up Maypoles in every village at lower Austria and Burgenland!

This event is always combined with a small folk festival! The local volunteers offer beer and wine and someting to eat.

So I went over there with my sister to meet Christoph and to have some wine tasting! Like every year our neighbour played some popular music and the crowd started to sing! We fled to the bar and tried some different high quality wines.

As Christoph wanted to attend a jumble sale the next day we left the 'powwow' and went to bed!

Dinner at Unibraeu

Calling Hannes and Reini to do something in the evening I offered them to meet at the Unibraue at the University campus to have something to eat and maybe a couple of beers.

I afforded a chicken souvlaki from the charcoil grill that tasted excellent! We chatted about some holiday plans and TV series and other 'slight fare'

As I had to go home by car on sunday morning I left them arount midnight when they started to enter the bar scene starting at 'Debakel'!
