My birthday

Getting 31 is always hard ;-)

Like every year I picked up a couple of friends to do a pub crawl across Zwettl. We started at the 'Café Sued' and switched then to the 'Flying Dutchman' and the 'Kuba-Bar' where Wiesi couldn't deny himself buying a bottle of rum for all of us.

Next station was the 'Beisl' and then at the end we entered the disco called 'Lifestyle'. I met there my old fellow Andy and we had kind of late night - or early morning - political discussion.

At half past three the last heroes - Wiesi and Georg and of course myself - decided to go home but the two wanted something to eat. So we stepped into the kebab booth for a 'hot panty' (or however they named this small bottled schnapps) and for a kebab for each of them.

At 4 am I went to bed!

A third time

All good things are three! So I went to the university campus a third time this week. This time I met with Hannes not at the 'Unibraeu' but at the Christmas market. Surprisingly we met Lothar and David at the Christmas market. The told us they will attend the 'Après Ski'-party at the 'Salettl' so we joined. It cost me some hot wines and beers and a taxi!

Fellow glogg

The intention to meet before Christmas caused another hot wine market visit. This time I met my old fellow KW and his girlfriend Doris. The location was the Cristmas market at the Maria Theresia square.

Doris even tried the absinthe punch but it did not savour her so she switched to an orange glogg. After a while we felt cold and changed to one of the taverns at the MQ!
Happy Christmas KW!

Flash Gordon Xmas

Another Xmas party on monday evening. The weekly 'Flash Gordon' did his Christmas celebration in the heated tent of the Uni-Braeu at the university campus.

Merrily we were 'forced' to wear red jelly bag caps!!! But that wasn't a fault because the tent was not that heated than promised. Especially my 'modern' close-cropped hair cut was glad for that.

It was time for a 'Schnitzel' and a couple of beers. I tattled also with Linde – the former secretary of the students union. Half past 11 Linde gave Karin and me a ride home. Nice evening!

Alumni mulled wine

After the House Attack I went a little bit shopping in one of Vienna's most crowded streets on Advent shopping saturdays - the Mariahilfer Street. On the way home I thought myself it would be time to attend the Alumni mulled wine meeting at the Business University.

So I left the subway U6 at 'Nussdorferstrasse' and went down to the university having a couple of hot wines and talking to familiar people about times more or less 'long ago'!

Unfortunately it's Christmas time and I had to visit another Xmas party in the evening. Did I mention before that I would be really glad surviving the last days before Christmas. Thank goodness it's the final spurt now!

The HouseAttack

On saturday it was time to face another installation done at the MQ. On the occasion of a retrospective at the museum of modern art (MUMOK) labelled 'Erwin Wurm - Keep a Cool Head' they did the installation of an one-family house that attacks the museum. They needed at least three cranes for lifting it up.

If the house is upside down it is completely equipped with TV antenna, flower boxes etc. and even a doorbell indicating 'Dr. Schuessel'!

It was also funny to watch the reactions of the passers-by when they entered the MQ court not expecting that installation by Erwin Wurm.

Hopefully there is only this sole attacking house out there! ;-)

Another 30th birthday

Yeah, it's raining thirties! Our buddy Wolfgang grew 30 years old on December 8.

So we made a family like celebration for him on December 7. Georg cooked onion soup and a carp. As appetizer and digestive we used recently imported vodka from Russia. Georg also did a sweet.

We had also a present for him. He got a brand spanking new fishing pole.

Around 11.30 pm we left Georgs appartment to continue the partying at several locations at the 'Guertelboegen'!

As I was a little bit tired from the ski trip I attended the days before I left them around 2 am and went home!

The Zell ski trip

Yes, like every year at the same time it was time to do the traintrip to Zell am See in beautiful Salzburg countryside. Praying for snow for a month did not help so we had to go up to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Standing 3,000 meters above the entity is their motto and after 5 days of skiing, having sauna and the Austrian way of après ski we felt like being smashed ;-)

On saturday December 3 early in the morning our train left Vienna. This time I took Georg, Hannes and Matl with me. Doing a trip with 100 exchange students has to start with a beer at 9 am!!! Nevertheless everybody arrived well.

The first two days the weather was great. Skiing in sun, relaxing in Sauna, partying at the lobby or in the so called 'party appartment' and just doing nothing made it a good starting. But I have to say, I missed the 'Breiteckalm' (our most preferable lunch and après ski cabin) and the 'Schnapps Hans' at the Schmittenhoehe.
The Team tried to do every day a special evening like the caribbean evening, the pyjama party and the 'special' ski baptism!

On Tuesday the weather was geeting warmer again (the November was the warmest ever). Even at 2,000 meters altitude the snow was aqueous. I went down earlier this day 'cause we had to send back some 40 people to Vienna in the evening!

It was also the 5th of December. The day of the devil - in Austria we call him 'Krampus'. On this day they celebrate a devils run in Zell am See. We definitely can't miss that! It was an interesting expression for the students!

The next - and last - day the weather conditions were windy and foggy. After going up the mountain Georg and I decided to walk through the tunnel to the viewing point. There you should see the highest mountain of Austria - the Gross Glockner. The only thing we saw was fog - that remembers me the 'glorious' mountain climbing up the Gerlachovsky Split (the highest mountain of the tatras in Slovakia).

What to do! Let's go down the hill by doing kind of a cabin tour. One beer here, one Jaegermeister there. Funny afternoon.

At 6.17 pm our train left Zell am See - well prepared (drinks) for a long trip back to Vienna!
