Great weather, great skiing!

We left Vienna on thursday afternoon and rushed forward to Innsbruck where we had a break at the Burger King. Around 9 pm we arrived at our accommodation in Soelden/Tyrol. We went to the local Irish pub for a pint and to watch icehockey. Afterwards we entered the crowded Harley Davidson bar for another drink.

Next morning we made a shortcut over a field in our ski boots right to the base station of the cablecar and up we went. It was a bit foggy so we skied to the glacier area where we had sunshine on the southern side. I had a goulash soup for lunch and in the afternoon we stopped for a hot chocolate with a lacing of rum. We left the mountain around 4.30 pm.

On our way back to our accommodation we hailed some sheep out at feed. For dinner we tried a restaurant called 'Die Alm' in the village centre that wasn't inebriant. Afterwards we replicated the day before by watching icehockey at the Irish pub. Later on the local large-capacity disco called Fire&Ice was our goal.

Next morning the weather conditions were great and so we hastened up the mountain. But not so Mike who stayed in the village and did a wellness day at the local spa. Saturday was the perfect day for skiing. Sunshine, excellent snow conditions and less people on the slopes. Although I used a 30+ sunscreen that Georg brought from Australia I got a red nose.

This day for dinner we were late after the sauna and so we had to wait in queue to be seated for nearly 30 minutes. We tried a pizzeria and it was quite ok. On Sunday Mike was back with us on the slopes and it was also a cracking ski day. I had the cumpulsory tyrolean bacon dumplings soup for lunch.

As the ski area closed on Sunday there were two options for Monday. Going to the glacier area or trying the nearby Hochgurgl skiing region. We tended to go to Hochgurgl but as the weather was not fine in the morning we took plan B and went to Munich. My friends wanted to visit the new Allianz Arena. When passing by we also visited the new football stadium they built in Innsbruck for the EURO 2008.

As I've never been before in Munich I went to the city centre while my friends had to wait for the guided tour through the stadium. Whenever you come to Munich you have to visit the Hofbraeuhaus for a beer. So I did. At 4.30 pm we met again at the Allianz Arena and we headed homewards. We had to drive through a rainy thunderstorm on our way but Mike did a great job and we arrived safe at Vienna.

Great trip!
