The Zell ski trip

Yes, like every year at the same time it was time to do the traintrip to Zell am See in beautiful Salzburg countryside. Praying for snow for a month did not help so we had to go up to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Standing 3,000 meters above the entity is their motto and after 5 days of skiing, having sauna and the Austrian way of après ski we felt like being smashed ;-)

On saturday December 3 early in the morning our train left Vienna. This time I took Georg, Hannes and Matl with me. Doing a trip with 100 exchange students has to start with a beer at 9 am!!! Nevertheless everybody arrived well.

The first two days the weather was great. Skiing in sun, relaxing in Sauna, partying at the lobby or in the so called 'party appartment' and just doing nothing made it a good starting. But I have to say, I missed the 'Breiteckalm' (our most preferable lunch and après ski cabin) and the 'Schnapps Hans' at the Schmittenhoehe.
The Team tried to do every day a special evening like the caribbean evening, the pyjama party and the 'special' ski baptism!

On Tuesday the weather was geeting warmer again (the November was the warmest ever). Even at 2,000 meters altitude the snow was aqueous. I went down earlier this day 'cause we had to send back some 40 people to Vienna in the evening!

It was also the 5th of December. The day of the devil - in Austria we call him 'Krampus'. On this day they celebrate a devils run in Zell am See. We definitely can't miss that! It was an interesting expression for the students!

The next - and last - day the weather conditions were windy and foggy. After going up the mountain Georg and I decided to walk through the tunnel to the viewing point. There you should see the highest mountain of Austria - the Gross Glockner. The only thing we saw was fog - that remembers me the 'glorious' mountain climbing up the Gerlachovsky Split (the highest mountain of the tatras in Slovakia).

What to do! Let's go down the hill by doing kind of a cabin tour. One beer here, one Jaegermeister there. Funny afternoon.

At 6.17 pm our train left Zell am See - well prepared (drinks) for a long trip back to Vienna!
